SMITH

Sadly, Denver Smith as a bystander during a peaceful protest was killed on November 16, 1972 on the Southern University campus in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. This unexplainable act of law enforcement aggression also claimed the life of Leonard Brown. Mr. Smith was a beloved member of the community and a junior majoring in Computer Science at the time of his murder. He is honored throughout Southern University’s campus and was awarded his degree posthumously in 2017. His life and untimely passing left an indelible mark on the lives of so many.

MISSION: To honor the life and legacy of Mr. Smith, the Denver Smith Foundation awards scholarships to students with significant barriers to Higher Education.  In addition, the Denver Smith Foundation will operate as a conduit in the restorative and social justice space.
